[03:41:43] #KSPOfficial: mode change '+o UmbralRaptop' by ChanServ!ChanServ@services.esper.net [04:07:54] how was the S-IVB reignited during flight? [04:09:43] JVFoxy, I played since .13 [04:10:10] back then I had an onboard gpu that could not render vessels, only the environment lol [04:10:17] the vessels were pure black [04:11:25] I started .18 on a friend's laptop but it wasn't for a bit before I got it on my own PC... 0.22 [04:12:00] I started on a desktop made in 2003 [04:12:02] single core [04:16:58] re S-IVB re-ignition: they would have had an extra starter/sparker to start it like they would have after staging. A set of ullage motors were fired to help keep fuel from sloshing around in the tank and causing bubbles in the feed lines [04:18:26] I built my machine specifically to run KSP at the time... Curious Marc on youtube posted video, meeting up with his team and has started work on restoring a develope model of the Apollo AGC. They want to get it ready in time for the 50th anniversary. [06:41:02] as usual, i didn't understand half of those words [06:52:52] ... [06:53:18] it was quite simple [06:53:35] some youtuber wants to have a working apollog guidance computer [06:53:53] the code is open source actually. but it is not needed, becasue the code is permanent in rope memory [06:54:25] that's the thing that they knitted by hand? [06:54:32] yes [06:54:44] Some old NASA guy managed to rescue a bunch of Apollo AGC from a warehouse a long time ago. Brought it to a team of restorers, hoping to see if they can get it working again for 50th anniversary of the moon landing. [06:54:49] so if oyu have the hardware, you have the code too [06:55:19] hardware he saved was part of the AGC development kit... they didn't use rope on the development one. It was rope-simulator blocks. [06:55:33] hehe [06:55:37] that makes it harder [06:56:37] the blocks didn't have any documents at all.. fortunately, because the development set wasn't what they called 'potted', ie: sealed in large amounts of black plastic, they can actually have access to the individual logic components for testing. [06:56:44] JVFoxy: i'm assuming that's something like an FPGA where you can test chip designs without having to do a physical layout [06:57:05] they cant be all that complicated [06:57:09] discrete components [06:57:20] 5200 NOR gates [06:57:26] so probably big and relatively easy to reverse engineer [06:57:28] Block II systems had 5700 NOR gates [06:57:59] the processor? [06:58:54] see for yourself... youtube video here; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2KSahAoOLdU&list=LL8WtM-w6bHhJPzMcku3Uk0A&t=0s&index=2 [06:59:30] oh for the ... frig, it appended some garbage, shorter url https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2KSahAoOLdU [07:02:18] JVFoxy: right click on the video and pick "copy video url" [07:03:40] been corrected... I was grabbing from my fav list [11:49:37] hm, i think i found a bug in stellaris... i have some sort of "ghost battle" where my ships/station won't fire back at that really damaged ship of the other guy [11:54:03] probably thinks it was destroyed [11:55:01] or it was destroyed but the image of it is not erased [11:56:46] oh, but it does fire at me [11:57:25] i guess i should feel lucky it doesn't penetrate the shields [11:58:02] do you feel lucky, punk? :) [11:58:58] does anyone ever use the "i'm feeling lucky" button on google? [12:16:40] eddi sure when im bored [12:26:53] #KSPOfficial: mode change '+o Deddly' by ChanServ!ChanServ@services.esper.net [12:27:09] 'eyup [12:57:33] #KSPOfficial: mode change '+o APlayer' by ChanServ!ChanServ@services.esper.net [13:07:30] never used it [13:11:21] Eddi|zuHause: odd fact about google homepage, it costs google millions of bucks each year in oppounity cost of not adversing on that page. [13:13:46] I never go to that page though... [13:14:11] just type your query in browser's address bar [13:14:17] yeah me too [13:14:29] unless its some event like halloween game. that was fun [13:19:05] I started using duckduckgo after sal_vager suggested it [13:22:06] #KSPOfficial: mode change '+o Deddly' by ChanServ!ChanServ@services.esper.net [13:54:30] i find duckduckgo produces horrible search results [14:02:24] only good on halloween? [14:12:45] btw, the ghost battle turned into a real battle after reloading [14:20:17] #KSPOfficial: mode change '+o BPlayer' by ChanServ!ChanServ@services.esper.net [14:26:30] yes, duckduckgo does provide bad results compared to google [14:26:46] the personalized touch is actually nice when you ignore your instinct its creepy [14:26:55] when i search the DMV, i want to see the DMV for the state i am in pop up [14:27:01] with the last state i lived in as #2 [14:27:06] not california then new york etc [14:42:58] And if *I* search for DMV, I want a definition. [14:53:18] hello :-) I'm trying to learn about aerodynamics, in particular to predict "which side is up". I've noticed placing the aero center below the center of mass makes the rocket "stabilize itself" when it goes up [14:53:54] however, when the rocket starts going down (i.e. out of fuel), it'll flip itself so that the aero center is above the center of mass. It makes sense. So far so good. [14:54:30] The problem I have is predicting the orientation during re-entry. I've made this small re-entrant probe for a test: https://i.imgur.com/OT5rP4e.jpg [14:55:01] and the aero center is clearly below the center of mass, so when going down, this contraption should flip itself with the ablative shield in the wrong direction, right? [14:55:19] well, for some reason, it went down the right side :-S What makes probes go ablative-shield first? [14:56:44] #KSPOfficial: mode change '+o UmbralRaptop' by ChanServ!ChanServ@services.esper.net [14:57:08] I think that's only taking into account lift, but not drag? [14:58:59] quite likely. Is there a way (mod, most likely) to see all aero forces during design (or flight, perhaps)? [14:59:28] there is a force overlay during flight, but i have no clue how it works [15:00:59] Action: UmbralRaptop wants to type that FAR does, but that also changes the aerodynamics [15:01:35] go ahead and substitute "improves" in there :P [15:01:57] will it make my probe flip itself? ;-) [15:02:34] don't know, FAR completely replaces the aero model [15:02:41] oyu need to be more careful designing, for sure [15:02:50] but even now it seems more intuitive [15:04:14] speaking of mods, I'm back at 1.5 after a loong break from 1.0 times. I've noticed KER, and now FAR too, are made for 1.3. KER put up a message at start saying that my version is unsupported. Is this normal? [15:04:40] FAR got patched at some point for 1.4, so there might be a 1.5 around [15:05:39] I'm still running 1.3 anyway, so :p [15:05:46] generally [15:12:15] goblin: most of the time there are no changes to the parts FAR and KER work on [15:12:40] Mat2ch, cool, thanks [15:12:52] also KER should be updated to work with 1.5.x [15:13:13] FAR also [15:13:21] you should use ckan to install them :) [15:14:53] #KSPOfficial: mode change '+o APlayer' by ChanServ!ChanServ@services.esper.net [15:16:24] Mat2ch, hmm, my Windows (gaming) machine doesn't have access to the internet, so I'm not sure that'll work... [15:17:11] you can use ckan to download to the internet-machine, and copy the content over to the gaming machine [15:17:48] ckan runs via mono on non-windows machines [15:19:47] ok, I'll get the stuff from the CKAN-meta repo's URLs [15:20:15] indeed, there's a newer KER there than I found on the forum, and FAR is now called "FerramAerospaceReasearchContinued" [15:26:04] not sure i like that naming scheme [15:37:52] #KSPOfficial: mode change '+o raptop' by ChanServ!ChanServ@services.esper.net [15:38:30] well, I wouldn't hook up a Windows to the internet either. :D [15:41:10] you are alone with that [15:41:27] I'm not so sure about this. [15:44:36] i've met people who went like "this update thing is driving me crazy, i'd rather disconnect from the internet" [15:44:52] hehe [15:45:08] btw i think i swill havent received the october update [15:45:15] the onw ith the user data deletion :) [15:45:51] i presume they fixed that in the mean time? [15:46:05] thy did [15:46:16] ot wait, i know that they found the cause [15:46:50] that is often the biggest part of the fix :p [15:48:03] eh i think i missed a rocket launch [15:48:08] was an indian [15:49:18] just be lucky you're not trying to follow every plane takeoff [15:49:23] hehe [15:49:47] this is one fat rocket [15:49:56] i think i saw the previous launch of this [15:50:26] I love the indian rocket [15:50:27] so new zealand is "tiny rockets", india is "giant but cheap"? [15:50:31] launch TWR is just nuts [15:53:10] hmm [15:53:22] this was the launch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HhOoRQubI5M [15:53:23] this was a smaller rocket [15:53:44] but i didnt start to watch it after lunch and started working, so i forgot [15:53:50] Althego: is the aspect ration off? [15:53:56] didn't make it any slower off the pad tho, lol [15:53:58] a bit [15:54:01] still a fat rocket [15:54:11] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geosynchronous_Satellite_Launch_Vehicle_Mark_III [15:54:13] looks a bit like the Ariane 5 [15:54:32] and like rockets I build in KSP in early career stages ;) [15:54:41] by the time a5 would clear a tower that thing would be a km up or so, heh [15:54:43] Eddi|zuHause: eh, I'd go with ISRO rockets being medium sized [15:54:57] solid, hypergolic and lox h2, it has everything [15:55:18] uhm, those small rockets there on the side, are those additional boosters? [15:55:28] they appear to be the first stage [15:55:37] don't think it actually lit the centre engine at launch [15:56:10] to be fair, the Titan 34D and Titan IV could also have all 3. [15:56:11] yes i wanted ti ask what are those [15:56:54] those are no boosters, those are some kind of tank [15:57:09] maybe to extinguish the rocket? [15:57:16] a solid? [15:57:22] quite hard to do [15:57:41] airbrake? [15:57:41] Fluid injection for TVC? [15:57:49] Action: raptop points again at the Titans [15:57:54] can be [15:59:10] the nozzles are vectorable according to wiki [15:59:22] vectoring [15:59:24] word [15:59:40] better be vectoring nozzles than scalaring :) [16:00:08] or it's to start the engine [16:00:09] throttleable SRBs, that'd be fun [16:01:09] if the fuel is solid, how does it go into the booster? [16:01:18] when it is liquid [16:01:28] in a liquid stage. It's dried inside of it [16:01:35] Imagine paint [16:02:50] Casting [16:02:53] paint doesn't just "dry", it polymerizes in a chemical reaction [16:03:05] and it is usually in a layer, not in bulk [16:03:15] casting, or concrete curing would be closer [16:03:26] does watercolor count as paint? ;) [16:23:28] #KSPOfficial: mode change '+o Deddly' by ChanServ!ChanServ@services.esper.net [17:01:20] eh another nvidia driver [17:02:59] I think my familly wanted to gift me a car for christmas [17:03:03] I hope they wont do that [17:03:09] hehe [17:03:44] i'd do anything would love, but i won't do that :) [17:03:50] (quote) [17:05:07] Fluburtur: ask for a flying car! [17:05:41] actually I would be ok with an electric car [17:05:50] because I would use it so little I would never need to charge it [17:05:56] hehe [17:06:02] same for conventionals [17:08:06] well, just never charge it above 90 % and never drive it down to under 15 % and it will outlast you... [17:08:41] conventionals will have their cylinders stuck. Electric motor just thinks "meh" :D [17:08:59] then ask for the money instead of the car :) [17:09:05] also I can buidl electric vehicles so wont be too weird for me [17:09:12] will probalby hack rc controls in it [17:10:16] just dont do it mythbusters style [17:10:17] you will never get an inspection for that :D [17:11:16] oh, I wanted to show you all this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lL7jwhWAU_k [17:11:18] :D [17:11:32] hehe i love this [17:11:43] the remix or the original? :P [17:11:46] the whole film rocks [17:11:52] the original [17:11:56] wait until the beat drops!
